2022 DACA LEGACY
Scholarship
The Rebeiz Foundation is launching our first DACA scholarship which aims to assist immigrants seeking to further their college education. We understand the obstacles DACA recipients face and want to bring light and awareness across the nation.
DACA Awareness
What is DACA?
Deferred Action for childhood arrivals is a United States immigration policy enacted by President Barrack Obama in 2012 which allows specific individuals with illegal status in the United States to receive a renewable period of employment authorization and protection from deportation. This policy has granted millions of undocumented immigrants who migrated to America as children a pathway to become well model individuals in the nation. Saying this, there are many fallacies within the DACA policy along with uncertain ambiguity surrounding the future of the program therefore a more long-term solution should be amended by the U.S. Government.
Educational Impact
According to the U.S. Department of Education, undocumented students, including DACA students, are not eligible for federal student aid. And in some cases, DACA students are not eligible for in-state tuition. This has huge implications in limiting DACA recipients from pursuing their educational and professional goals and aspirations.
Democramatic Impact
As a resident alien, there are certain limitations to DACA status such as:
-
Unable to receive certain federal benefits
-
Unable to vote
-
Unable to serve in the military
-
Unable to qualify for U.S. clearances
-
Unable to leave the U.S. without special travel authorization
